Lelystad Airport, a sustainable airport.

Home About us Sustainable development goals

Royal Schiphol Group Sustainability Strategy

Royal Schiphol Group, of which Lelystad Airport is a part, aims to develop the most sustainable airports in the world. The strategy focuses on three key pillars:

  • CO₂ reduction: 90% less emissions by 2030 (compared to 2019) and net zero emissions by 2050 (Scope 1 & 2). Together with its partners, RSG is also working towards net zero emissions across the entire aviation value chain by 2050 (Scope 3).

  • Emission-free ground operations: fully emission-free by 2030, with electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and alternative fuels.

  • Circular economy: reducing waste, reusing materials and building sustainably, with the goal of operating waste-free by 2030.

Together with partners in the aviation sector, Royal Schiphol Group is taking steps to achieve these goals and accelerate the sustainability transition.

At Lelystad Airport, sustainable innovations are central

To realize a future-proof aviation sector, Lelystad Airport follows a strategy based on four key pillars. Together, these pillars form the foundation for a sustainable airport and a healthy living environment.

1. Energy & energy carriers

We aim to power all processes, vehicles, and buildings at the airport entirely with sustainable energy and energy carriers.

2. Regional development

Lelystad Airport seeks to strengthen the region by creating a network where living, working, and learning are interconnected and mutually reinforcing.

3. More sustainable aviation & mobility

Our ambition is to be a frontrunner in making mobility more sustainable – both at the airport, in the air, and on the ground.

4. Climate-resilient development

We are building and developing Lelystad Airport in a climate-resilient way: prepared for change, sustainable in use, and flexible in adaptation where necessary.
