Lelystad Airport mag groeien tot een luchthaven met maximaal 45.000 vliegbewegingen per jaar. Dit besluit van staatssecretaris Mansveld is vandaag in het Staatsblad gepubliceerd. Het transferverkeer – van groot belang voor de mainport – krijgt zo op Schiphol meer ruimte.
‘Het luchthavenbesluit voor Lelystad Airport is een belangrijke stap voor de groei van mainport Schiphol. Door deze ontwikkeling kan Schiphol een concurrerende internationale mainport in een concurrerende regio blijven’, aldus Jos Nijhuis, CEO van Schiphol Group. Door financiële prikkels, adequate faciliteiten en bijbehorende lage havengelden verwacht Nijhuis, dat Lelystad Airport een aantrekkelijk alternatief is voor vakantievluchten van luchtvaartmaatschappijen.
Opening in 2018 noodzakelijk
De economische ontwikkeling van de mainport Schiphol is van vitaal belang voor Nederland. Lelystad Airport moet in 2018 operationeel zijn om de (selectieve) groei van Schiphol mee op te vangen. Schiphol kan haar functie als mainport van Nederland verder versterken door specialisatie van de luchthaven op hub- en mainportgebonden verkeer. De regionale luchthavens bieden een alternatief aan het niet noodzakelijkerwijs aan de mainport gebonden verkeer. Zo kan Schiphol een concurrerende mainportluchthaven zijn en vooral blijven.
Lelystad Airport has been given the go-ahead to develop into an airport with a maximum of 45,000 air transport movements per year. This decision by State Secretary Mansveld was published in the Dutch Bulletin of Acts, Orders and Decrees today. This will allow more scope for transfer traffic at Schiphol, which is very important for the Mainport.
The airport decree for Lelystad Airport marks an important step in the growth of Mainport Schiphol. By offering financial incentives and appropriate facilities coupled with low airport charges, Nijhuis anticipates that Lelystad Airport will provide an attractive alternative for the airlines’ holiday flights.
Opening in 2018 required
The economic development of Mainport Schiphol is of vital importance to the Netherlands. Lelystad Airport must become operational in 2018 in order to accommodate the selective growth of Schiphol. Schiphol will be able to bolster its function as a Mainport for the Netherlands by specialising in hub and Mainport-related air traffic. The regional airports offer an alternative for traffic which need not necessarily pass through the Mainport. This will enable Schiphol to be and, more importantly, remain a competitive major airport.
