Lelystad Airport has been part of Royal Schiphol Group since 1993.<\/p>\n

Vliegveld Lelystad became Lelystad Airport and developed into a key airport for General Aviation. With approximately 80,000 aircraft movements per year, Lelystad Airport is the second-largest airport in the Netherlands in terms of movements. Air traffic controllers from Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL) ensure the safe handling of this air traffic.<\/p>\n

Lelystad Airport has been prepared to serve as a relief airport for Schiphol. This role was formally established in 2008 in the Alders Agreement by local residents, politicians, and representatives of the aviation sector.<\/p>\n

After several years of postponements and political decision-making, a positive decision regarding the future of Lelystad Airport and the opening for holiday flights was taken on 30 January 2026 in the coalition agreement of D66, VVD and CDA. This decision brought clarity, after more than ten years of discussion, about the further development of the airport.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Lelystad Airport plays an important socio-economic role for Flevoland and the wider region. The introduction of commercial air traffic (holiday flights) will provide an economic boost to businesses, the tourism and recreation sector, and knowledge and educational institutions. The further development of Lelystad Airport strengthens the position of Flevoland and the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA) as an economic engine and as a crucial link between various provinces and regions in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

The actual start of holiday flights will take place once all required conditions have been met.<\/p>\n
